New Owner Introduction

Hey everyone! The wait is over! My name is Ericka Day and I am filled with gratitude and excitement to introduce myself as the new owner of SUPerior Paddle!

First, I want to thank Amanda and Drew for their amazing five years and for starting this wonderful company! They have created lasting memories for thousands of paddlers and none of this would have been possible without them. I am looking forward to continuing to grow what they have built.

A little about myself; I am originally from Iowa but Duluth stole my heart two years ago, and I haven’t looked back since! You can normally find me out hiking, biking, camping, sipping’ on craft beer, enjoying the simple things in life, and of course paddle boarding!

I believe nature has the power to take us out of our daily hustle and bustle, melt away our worries and fill our lives with adventure. When I first came to Duluth, I fell in love with the beauty that surrounds us and I am so excited to continue to connect our community and visitors to this beautiful place I call home.

Keep on the lookout for upcoming new adventures and events, and as always-

Paddle On!

The “Party Barge” is here

megaThere is definetely something different about standing up on the water; that’s what makes paddle boarding different than kayaking or canoeing. The perspective is completely different. You aren’t constrained. More freedom of movement. You’re more connected with the water and the things around you. It’s just you out there; peace, serenity, silence.  This is what has made SUP so popular.

Then along came the “Party Barge”, our 15′ Isle Megalodon giant paddle board made for up to 8 people. It’s like releasing the Kraken. It’s a big wild beast. No longer is it just you out there in control of your own fate. Nope. Now you have a half-dozen other people relying on you; or not. Maybe you’re the type to just sit on top of the cooler and partake in the refreshments while all the others paddle. That’s okay I guess, as long as the others don’t toss you overboard. Or maybe you’re the one calling out the old viking paddling chants to try to keep the paddling synced while the rest of the gang goofs off. It’s all good. Anything flies on the “Party Barge”.

No matter who you are, the only thing that is guaranteed is that you’re going to have a blast on the Big Board. It’s a completely new SUP experience and it’s a blast no doubt about it. If you’re an experienced paddle boarder who thinks you’ve done all things SUP, think again. You should totally get your crew together and try out the “Party Barge”. It makes any day a better day.

Interviews on #stand_up_paddle

We are so pumped to collaborate with www.captainsup.com to share some awesome Instagram interviews with the top folks in the SUP industry. Check out #stand_up_paddle to read the first interview with @slatertrout, one of the top paddlers in America, world traveler, and a pro behind the camera.

Q&A with Slater Trout (@slatertrout) Bio: At age 20, Slater Trout represented Team USA for the 2015 World Championships and already has a laundry list of SUP awards that is way too long to list here. It helps that he started competing against adults in major competitions when he was only 11. He is now a legend in the SUP community and a professional photographer. Check out his accomplishments and photos at www.slatertrout.com. Q: Hey Slater, what draws you to photography? A:The thrill of bringing the photo you've had in your mind for so long to life. Q: Your photos let us feel like we are traveling around the world with you. What life-lessons have you learned from your travels. A: Traveling has taught me more than any classroom ever has. My goal is to learn as much from traveling as I can while I'm still young. Q: You were recently in Iceland as part of the #NorthernWatersProject. What is your most vivid memory from that trip. A: I will be announcing something really exciting involving the #NorthernWatersProject very soon. My best memory from the trip was stand up paddling under a frozen waterfall. It was a surreal moment in my life. Q: What achievement, on the water or off, are you most proud of? A: Making my parents proud of who I have become. That is my greatest achievement. Q: Slater is a name that seems to be synonymous with “cool”. Who do you think would win in a fight: Kelly Slater (pro surfer) or A.C. Slater from Saved by the Bell? A: Ha, I'm gonna have to go with Kelly on this one. Sponsors: @sperry, @lifeproof, @boardworkssurfsup, @infinity_surf, @officialmauijim, @freestyle_watch, @fcs_surf
